HOW-TO: Grown-Out Ombre Transformed Into An Edgy, Blonde Lob

The reason why Alex Wilson, founder and creative director of Arton Salon in New York, loves balayage and ombre so much is because it offers easy maintenance for her clients. In this scenario, Arton’s client Aya’s long, ombre look lasted her for months, but needed to be switched up a bit for the new season.

“We haven’t colored Aya’s hair for about six months,” said Wilson. “Every time Aya visits Arton, she is ready for a big change, that’s what we love about her and we always try to do a huge makeover and give her a fresh, signature look.”

This time Arton and her client agreed on creating a haircut that was classier and edgy at the same time to compliment the haircolor with her skin tone and face shape.

CUTTING:

STEP 1: Prep the hair with Moroccanoil Styling Cream (acts as a cutting lotion). Section the hair in the middle from ear to ear across the crown. Section out the nape. Using shears take horizontal sections and point cut in a slight graduation.

STEP 2: Above the occipital, take vertical sections straight back, and cut in square layers. Continue back through the sides, pulling vertical sections back and cutting at a 90° angle.

STEP 3: In the crown, take vertical sections up at a 90° angle and cut in concave layers.

STEP 4: In the top, take horizontal sections at a 90° angle, cut in concave layers, using the crown as a guide.

STYLING:

STEP 1: Prep damp hair with a Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and Moroccanoil Root Boost.

STEP 2: Blow dry hair using a paddle brush for a smooth, low volume hairstyle.

STEP 3: Finish with Moroccanoil Strong Finish Hairspray.

THE COLOR:

Color Remover: Apply Wella Blonder Lightner with 20 volume + shampoo all over to brighten the hair. Apply Wella Blondor Lightner with 30 volume plus Olaplex 1/8 oz for full highlights. Between the highlights, apply Wella 12/1 Koleston with 30 volume to the roots. Process hair for 30 minutes. Tone the hair with Wella Color Touch /18 and /86 and 6% emulsion for 15 minutes.
